PIONEER THEATRE COMPANY TO PRODUCE LES MISÉRABLES AS PART OF ITS 2012-2013 SEASON

Season Includes Three Musicals, Two Pulitzer Prize Nominees

Salt Lake City, UT – The epic musical Les Misérables returns to Pioneer Theatre Company, after its record-breaking sold-out 2007 regional premiere at PTC, as the final event of PTC Artistic Director Karen Azenberg’s inaugural season. The 2012-2013 season will open with the Utah premiere of In the Heights, one of three musicals offered, and will also include the Utah premiere of the winner of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Clybourne Park.
The theatre’s seven-play season opens with the Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-nominated musical In the Heights, running September 14 to September 29, 2012, and is followed by John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men from October 19 to November 3, 2012. A Christmas Carol: The Musical, with music by eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken and originally produced at Madison Square Garden, fills the holiday slot from November 30, 2012 to December 15, 2012. The stylish romantic comedy The Philadelphia Story runs from January 11 to January 26, 2013, followed by the Utah premiere of Clybourne Park by Bruce Norris, from February 15 to March 2, 2013.  The iconic Neil Simon comedy, The Odd Couple, runs from March 22 to April 6, 2013, and Les Misérables will run from May 3 through June 1, 2013, which includes two extra weeks of performances.
Remarking on the season, Artistic Director Karen Azenberg said, “For my first season I wanted to include all the different types of theatre I love: musicals both old and new, two very different but wonderful comedies, a fascinating and topical new play and a moving classic. There’s something for everyone in this season.”
Season tickets range from $84 to $307, which means that season ticket patrons pay between $12 and $44 a ticket to see shows that cost over $100 on Broadway or National Tours. Notes PTC Managing Director Chris Lino, “The last time we did Les Misérables, the only way to get good seats was to either buy season tickets or pay four times face value to scalpers. For the price of one or two tickets to a Broadway show theatergoers can have a full season of entertainment at PTC, and be assured of the best seats and the convenience of exchanging their tickets if they can’t make their regular performance. And, as our long-time patrons know, you’ll be seeing the same actors who appear on Broadway stages, and the same spectacular sets and costumes that you would see on Broadway.”
