Opening on October 3rd at the Berlin Staatsoper: New staging of Richard Wagner’s SEGFRIED

With Richard Wagner’s SIEGFRIED Daniel Barenboim and director Guy Cassiers present the third part of their “Ring” at the Staatsoper Berlin. The coproduction with the Teatro alla Scala di Milano began in 2010 in collaboration with the Toneelhuis Antwerp. The Staatskapelle Berlin and an excellent ensemble of singers with Lance Ryan (Siegfried), Iréne Theorin (Brünnhilde), Juha Uusitalo (Der Wanderer), Peter Bronder (Mime), Johannes Martin Kränzle (Alberich), Mikhail Petrenko (Fafner), Anna Larsson (Erda) and Rinnat Moriah (Waldvogel) promise highest musical quality.

The Flemish director and set-designer Guy Cassiers interprets the “Ring” as a dramatic story of our global world order, wherein the real power is in the hands of those who control, manipulate and distribute images and information. Together with Arjen Klerkx and Kurt D’Haeseleer (video), Enrico Bagnoli (lighting) as well as Tim Van Steenbergen (costume) he combines Wagnerian vocabulary with today’s technical possibilities. The award-winning choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui has developed a choreography for five dancers for this new staging of SIEGFRIED. In combination with the singer-performers’ voices and the sound of the orchestra it all comes together as a “Gesamtkunstwerk” in the Wagnerian sense.

This “Ring” will be completed with the new production of DIE GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG in March 2013. The cycle will be shown consecutively for the first time during the FESTTAGE (March 23rd – April 1st).
